Math: (Ms. Mantia) – There will be a quiz on multiplication of integers on Monday. Following the quiz, we will divide with integers and variables. There will be a quiz on Friday on division of integers and variables.
Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will continue our studies on Africa. Students will be learning about Africa’s government and religion. We will be having a quiz on Tuesday.
Science: (Ms. Gorham) – This week is Physical Science we dived deeper into the Periodic Table of Elements. We are trying to learn that some elements on the periodic table can be solids, liquids or gases in their nature states. We will learn about electron configurations inside an atom next week.
ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week we will continue our ROTHMC reading. Students will also begin a short research project related to our reading. Our grammar focus will be on adjectives and adverbs. See weekly assignment sheet for details.
Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will have their quiz on the -ire verbs that take -isc (pages 121-123) on Wednesday, October 22nd. They will be learning the ordinal numbers found on pages 123 and 124.
Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will continue work in Chapter 6 on vocabulary of the family. A quiz will be scheduled mid-week. We will also start work on an oral presentation related to vocabulary of the family.
Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will be given one day of class time to work on their family tree projects and check in with me regarding any grammatical questions they may have on their rough drafts. They will also take a vocabulary quiz on Words 1/Palabras Uno (Family Members) pages 160-161 on Tuesday (8B) and Wednesday (8A & C). Following the quiz, students will explore Words 2/Palabras Dos, which consists of rooms of the house, apartment floors, and activities done in the living room. Students should keep in mind that projects are due Wednesday, October 30th!
Latin: (Mr. Sullivan) – Students will begin with relative clauses in English before they tackle the relative clauses in Latin; they will learn the reason for relative clauses and which pronouns introduce relative clauses. After they do exercises in English–combining two sentences using a relative clause–they will do the same in Latin,at the same time learning which pronouns in Latin introduce a relative clause. Students will continue translating sentences from Latin into English.
Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be viewing a short film on cyberbullying presented by digizen.org called “Let’s Fight it Together.” Students will also view an interview with each character, trying to understand the options each character had to stop the bullying. Students will then create role plays using these characters.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students worked on section 2.5 (multiplying with variables). Next week, we will work on section 2.6 (distributive property) and we will have a quiz on sections 2.4-2.6.
Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Next week, we will study the rise of centralized governments in African kingdoms and the variety of religions that influenced the people throughout the continent. Students should expect a quiz on 13.2 at the end of next week and should use their vocabulary and presentation notes to prepare.
ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – Students will complete an in-class writing prompt on the short stories we have just read in our Suspense Unit. We reviewed all stories at the end of this week to help students prepare. We will also begin our Multicultural Literature Unit toward the end of the week.
Science: (Mr. Marino)– Students are differentiating between ionic bonds and covalent bonds among atoms. Through labs they will be distinguishing the various levels of viscosity.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students will be tested MONDAY over sections 2.1 – 2.3. This includes all the concepts of real numbers that we have studied, including addition and subtraction of positive and negative real numbers. Next we will look at the multiplication of real numbers and the distributive property.
Social Studies: (Mrs. Bova) – Next week, students will discover how the Bantu migrations spread common ideas to much of Africa. They will also learn that the African slave trade disrupted African society and carried African people and cultures around the world. A quiz will be given towards the end of the week.
Science: (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of atoms and molecules with several labs identifying elements, compounds and mixtures. The Element poster and typed fact sheet is due next Friday, October 24 and a test on Matter, Particles and Atoms will be given on Monday, October 27, 2014. All science binders should be complete and in class every day.
ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week, students will be writing their book analysis rough draft in class. The independent novel must be read by Tuesday. If students took notes on the novel they should bring them to class on Tuesday. The final copy will be due on Friday and uploaded to www.turnitin.com by 7:00 Friday morning.
We will also continue with the unit on Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
