November 26, 2014

Math: (Ms. Mantia)  – We will continue our work with Chapter 3 Solving Linear Equations.  Students will learn how to model and solve equations involving multiplication and division.  There will be a quiz in the middle of the week.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Students will continue their studies on China. They will be learning about the Mongols  and how they created a new dynasty that traded with the rest of Asia.    Have a great Thanksgiving!

Science: (Ms. Gorham) – Students will begin their unit on Density. They will also be completing their first Lab Report on Matter. This Lab Report will be due on Wed 12/3.

ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week, students will finish their grammar unit on the functions of pronouns. We will also continue our MCLP work. All due dates are listed on the weekly assignment sheet.

 

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning about some famous monuments in various Italian cities by means of a cultural reading on page 139. In Italian they will be able to name important monuments, tell what they are and in which cities they are located.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish eighth graders will be starting Lesson 7 studying sports- related vocabulary. We will start learning about soccer first. Feliz Dia de Accion de Dar las Gracias.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Upon returning from Thanksgiving break, students will begin Chapter 7 in their textbooks, which consists of sports vocabulary. Students will complete a folded paper assignment with the vocabulary, as well as create original skits in pairs. Students should expect a vocabulary quiz on Words 1/Palabras 1 (pgs. 190-191) the following week. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Latin: (Mr. Sullivan) – Students will be quizzed  on the third declension masculine and feminine and neuter, singular and plural; they will read and be tested on “Thr Palace at Fishbourne”; and they   will continue translating sentences from Latin into English.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be learning about stress and its impact on our health. This week we will discuss the fight or flight response and new research that sheds light on the gender differences in this response.  Students will also identify stressors in their own lives.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  Last week, students finished section 3.3 (two step equations).  This week, we are working on percents, ratios, and rates (section 3.8).  After thanksgiving break, we will work on section 3.4 (equations with variables on both sides).

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will be studying the religion of Buddhism and the philosophy of Confucianism next week.  Students will focus on how each of these influenced the lives of the Chinese people.  Students should expect a quiz at the end of the week.  They should use their vocabulary and presentation notes to help prepare.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – As we finish the multicultural literature unit, we will focus on the research paper.  The due date for the final draft will be pushed back to the following week, and we will go through the structure of the essay, specifically the body paragraphs.

Science: (Mr. Marino)– Students have taken a big exam last week, their grades are posted on ASPEN. This week students worked on class demonstrations, so if you child was absent this week or last, it is important for them to complete the work they missed.

French: (Mme Abrams) – French students will be finishing the vocabulary from Lesson 17 (page 144) and reviewing for a Lesson quiz.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Upon returning from Thanksgiving break, students will begin the study of solving linear equations with variables on both sides.  Students will also learn how this can be applied to real life situations.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Bova) – Students will continue their studies on China. They will be learning about the Mongols  and how they created a new dynasty that traded with the rest of Asia.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) –  Next Wednesday, there will be a test on the terms and concepts of chemistry, with review on the days prior to the test.  On Thursday, students will begin their study of density in matter.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week we will continue to read and discuss the play Twelve Angry Men.  On Tuesday there will be a test on verbs.  Students have received review exercises, and we reviewed as a class to help prepare for the test.  We will move on to prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.

 

French: (Mme Pescatore) – French students will be finishing the vocabulary from Lesson 17 (page 144) and reviewing for a Lesson quiz.
